5th graders celebrated Earth Day this afternoon. Together we were able to gather 3 large bags of trash. After two mornings of MSTEP testing the students were able to enjoy the beautiful day and rest their brains after their hard work. The teachers and staff are very thankful for their commitment to a growth and community mindset.

Quincy Girls Soccer Tops Delton Kellogg 3-1 The Quincy girls soccer team hit the road Friday night and came away with a solid 3-1 victory over Delton Kellogg. The Panthers struck first, scoring just seven minutes into the match. But Quincy responded quickly—11 minutes later, Abby Hinds fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box to even the score at 1-1. Before the half ended, Kenzi Maynard added another goal for the Orioles, assisted by Laura Bostic, giving Quincy a 2-1 lead at the break. Early in the second half, Bostic found the net herself to extend the lead to 3-1. Goalkeeper Danica Swift had a strong night in net, recording 9 saves. With the win, Quincy improves to 8-2 on the season and remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0. The team is back on the road Monday for another conference matchup against Springport.

In game 1 both teams battled back and forth and Spartans hit a 2 run homerun in the 6 th inning to grab a 6-5 lead. The Orioles threatened but could not get the tying run home. Pitcher Brennen Allman had tough luck on the bump. The Senior righty gave up 7 hits 6 runs only 2 earned and struck out 7. Ryan Kempter came on in relief recording the final outs. Freshman Bryson Estlow lead the Orioles at the plate with 2 hits including a 2b hit and an RBI. Kempter also doubled and had an RBI. Landon Beardon added a hit and 2 RBi. Allman and Alex Barry also had singles In game 2 the Orioles fell 3-2 stranding the tying and go ahead runs in their final at bat. Quincy Softball Splits with Springport in Big 8 Action Quincy after multiple cancellations was excited to finally have there home opener but it was Springport who took the first game 4-2 behind pitcher Morgan Shoemaker’s 17 strikeouts. Hannah Brown pitched well for the Orioles in the loss throwing all 7 innings giving up just 5 hits while striking out 5. Quincy was held scoreless until the bottom of the 7th when Cali Richards walked then stole second base. Hannah Brown then bunted for a single moving Cali to third. After Hannah stole second, Miley Poindexter singled scoring both Cali and Hannah. It was great to see the girls continue to fight but it was to little to late. Cali Richards reached base all three trips to the plate earning 2 walks and also singling. Makiya Feltner and Hannah Brown each singled. Miley Poindexter singled, drove in 2 and stole 3 bases. Quincy started game 2 like they finished game 1 coming to the plate with determination and grabbed an early 2 run lead. It was Quincy this time holding the lead heading into the 7th inning up 4-2. The Orioles extended their lead with 4 runs in the top of the 7th. Springport would not back down as they made things real interesting scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th but ultimately it was Quincy coming out on top 8-6 as right fielder Nakeisha Baker made a running catch in foul territory to end the game. Hannah Brown continued her outstanding pitching throwing the first 2 innings before handing the ball over to Danica Skirka to close out the game. Danika struck out 8 in 5 innings to close the game out. A big part of Quincy’s victory came on their ability to run the bases stealing 7 bases; Taylor Lewis 3, Miley Poindexter, 2 and Deziray Skirka 2. Poindexter and Ary’Annah Freeman each were able to score on separate passed balls to continue being menaces on the bases. Makiya Feltner drove in 3 runs on 2 hits. Miley Poindexter and Deziray Skirka both had two hits and each scored 3 times. Cali Richards and Taylor Lewis each added a single.

Good things in 5th grade science! This week the science class introduced a tank of tadpoles into the classroom. Students are currently learning about ecosystems and this is a great way to incorporate a part of Michigan's ecosystem into our learning. Some of our tadpoles have been named (although we are unsure how to which one is actually Bob the next day). Students have asked so many great questions about tadpoles and frogs. They will continue to observe and learn about these incredible amphibians as we finish the school year.
